Harbin Y-12 Twin-Engine Turboprop Utility Aircraft, Harbin Y-12 or Yunshuji-12 is a twin-engine light multi-role aircraft designed and developed by Harbin Aircraft Manufacturing Corporation (HAMC) of China. It was derived from its predecessor the Harbin Y-11. The Y-12 is principally used for both passenger and cargo transportation.

Nepal airlines conduct successful Lukla test flight of Y12e aircraft after 5 years of its presence on Nepal airlines fleet, but still, they had not scheduled Y12e aircraft to Lukla Sector. The 17-seater Y12e arrived in Kathmandu in 2014 and was intended to serve remote mountain airfields like Lukla, Jomsom, Manang, Simikot, Rara, Jumla and Dolpa. But the plane had a regulatory limit, meaning that it could only fly to airports with a maximum grade of up to 2 percent or about 1.2 degrees of slope. The regulator Caan had to clear the aircraft to serve airports with a slope of more than 2 degrees.

Nepal Airlines has brought this Y12e to Nepal in line with the loan and grant deal sealed between Nepal and China Government. In November 2014, the Government of Nepal signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to purchase six aeroplanes worth 4 million yuan as part of soft-loan and grant deal.
